C# 2.0 new features: Nullable Types

Last night while going to my house, i stopped my bike in a shop near to my house. I met one of my friend there. We were working together for about 3 months in my previous company. He was working in ASP technology by that time. But, he got an offer for .Net and jumped to that new environment with our help. In the initial time of his new office, he used to call us redundantly and asked some of the doubts in .Net. After some time, we didn't get any call from him. Since, he got some experience in .Net, he was able to manage his own problems.

Oh, the topic gets diverted. Come back to the point. While we were discussing about our present situation and job experiences, he started to ask some doubts in .Net. It is one of that doubts.

"How can i manipulate an integer type database variable which may contains a null variable in our business logic file?"

Well. The answer is simple. We can use Nullable Type for this case. Here is the syntax and example code snippet follows.

Nullable Type:

A Nullable Type can represent the normal range of values for its underlying value type, plus an additional null value.

Syntax:

Nullable types can declared in two ways. They are:

System.Nullable variable;

-or-

data_type? variable;

Example code snippet:

System.Nullable var1;

-or-

int? var1;

If we use this case in our business logic, it will solve this problem.

I have explained this to my friend and we have started to discuss about our personal life. It was a great pleasure to meet him after a such long time. When we meet a friend after a long time, it will render our older memories as well. Is not it?
